Electric Vehicle Interest Hits New Low in Texas, According to AAA Study

The State of Texas has witnessed a significant decline in interest in purchasing electric vehicles, with only 16% of U.S. adults expressing a willingness to buy a fully electric vehicle as their next car, according to AAA’s latest electric vehicle survey. The lowest recorded percentage of interest in electric vehicles in Texas since before the pandemic marks a concerning trend for the growing market, as many consumers express concerns regarding high battery repair costs and purchase prices.

Some of the key concerns that consumers face when considering a switch to an electric vehicle include:

  • High battery repair costs
  • Purchase price of the vehicle itself
  • Long-distance road-trips and availability of charging stations

AAA asserts that the future of electric vehicles in Texas relies heavily on the development of comprehensive charging infrastructure. The organization highlights the need for reliable and widespread charging facilities across the state, emphasizing that this will be a critical factor in increasing public acceptance of electric vehicles.

Doug Shupe, a Communications Manager for AAA Texas, remarks, “Having a really good infrastructure with charging facilities all across the state of Texas, all across America, is going to be one of the key things to get people more comfortable to make that purchase.”

While there are some encouraging signs, such as lower gas prices, the overall trend suggests that consumers in Texas are not yet convinced of the benefits of electric vehicles.

In light of this, AAA offers the following tips to help drivers maximize their fuel efficiency:

Practice Benefits
Prioritize vehicle maintenance, including properly inflated tires Boosts fuel efficiency and prolongs vehicle life
Slow down to maintain optimal fuel economy Peak fuel economy is typically reached at 50 miles per hour
Drive to cheaper gas stations Prices tend to be lower at gas stations not located off highways
Store gear and luggage inside the vehicle Reduces wind resistance and drag, conserving fuel

AAA suggests that drivers can make a positive impact on their fuel efficiency by implementing these simple practices, which can help reduce fuel costs and minimize their carbon footprint.

AAA also offers some encouragement regarding recent trends, noting that drivers in Bexar County can now expect to pay around 40 to 50 cents less per gallon of regular unleaded fuel compared to this time last year.

While this may seem like a welcome change, it’s essential to remember that drivers can still take advantage of additional cost-saving measures to minimize their fuel consumption.

By following these simple tips, drivers can significantly improve their fuel efficiency and make a positive impact on the environment.

“The future of electric vehicles in Texas depends on creating a robust and reliable charging infrastructure.
