BlowFuel is an independent, advertising-supported site built around six calculators for drivers who want a number instead of a guess about fuel economy, range, cost, and emissions. There’s no origin story here — just a walk through what each tool does, how it works, and where its numbers come from, so you can judge for yourself whether it’s useful before you rely on it.

Start with your real MPG

Everything else on the site assumes you know your actual fuel economy, not just the sticker figure, so that’s where the tools start. The MPG Calculator takes the miles you drove and the gallons you used and works out your real miles per gallon, along with the metric equivalents in L/100km and km/L for anyone checking against a non-US spec sheet.

Planning a tank and a trip

Once you have an MPG figure, the Gas Mileage & Range Calculator turns it and your tank size into a driving range, lets you hold back a reserve you never plan to dip below, and tells you how many gallons a specific trip needs and whether one tank will cover it.

For the cost side of the same question, the Fuel Cost Calculatorprices a trip from its distance, your MPG, and the price at the pump — with round-trip and repeat-trip options, plus the gallons burned and the cost per mile — so “what will this drive cost me” has an actual number attached before you leave.

Comparing vehicles, and gas against electric

The Fuel Economy Comparison Calculator puts two vehicles side by side over a year of driving at a fuel price you set, working out the annual gallons and fuel cost for each and the saving the more economical one delivers. The EV vs Gas Cost Calculator runs the same comparison across powertrains: cost per mile from MPG and pump price on one side, kWh/100mi and your electricity price on the other, with the annual saving worked out either way.

What a trip costs beyond the pump

The Driving Carbon Footprint Calculator estimates the CO₂ from your driving using the EPA’s published gasoline emissions factor, converting the gallons you burn annually into kilograms and tons of CO₂, with an optional side-by-side against an EV. BlowFuel isn’t affiliated with the EPA or any vehicle, fuel, or charging brand — the factor is simply the public figure the calculation runs on.

Beyond the calculators
